Richard L. Nielsen, age 63 of Iron River, MI, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home. Born: February 7, 1947 in East Grand Rapids, MI The son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Yant) Nielsen attended and graduated from Rockford High School. He was proud to have served aboard the U.S.S. St. Francis River during Vietnam. He moved to the Iron River area from Traverse City in 1993 and owned and operated Richard's Ceramic and Leather Craft Shop. Richard married the former Marge (Freeman) Bossenberger on June 19. 1999 and the couple made their home in Stambaugh Township. They celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year. Richard attended the First Baptist Church of Iron River and belonged to the Order of the Purple Heart. His goal was to grow the largest pumpkin possible at his farm. He enjoyed working in the garden, panning for gold, riding his motorcycle, and making belts and leather goods for people. He is survived by his wife, Marge Son, Anthony (Amber) Nielsen of Iron River Step-son, Al Bossenberger III of Oshkosh, WI Step-daughter, Melissa (Martin) Bugai of Oshkosh, WI Brother, Ron Nielsen of Lower Michigan Sister, Darlene Drake of Grand Rapids, MI Eight grandchildren Nieces, nephews and extended family Faithful companions, Blue and Happy Harry He was also preceded in death by his sister, Sue Nielsen. Visitation: Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Iron River. Funeral Service: Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Iron River, with Rev. John Fish to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the funeral.
