Richard W. Nordstrom, 72, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital, after a battle with cancer.
He was born on March 6, 1954, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Floyd and Frances (O’Connor) Nordstrom. He attended the Iron River Schools.
Richard married Patricia “Patti” Mickelson on March 11, 1972, in Iron River. Together they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year, building a life centered on family, hard work, and simple joys.
Richard spent much of his life working as a logger and tree trimmer. He was a humble and hardworking man who believed in earning an honest living and never asking for more than he needed. To Richard, “good enough” was always good enough, and he often reminded those around him that money could never buy happiness. He was known for his generous heart and willingness to help others, often said to be the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back if it meant keeping someone else warm.
In his younger years, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a fun-loving social butterfly who never met a stranger and could often be found enjoying time with friends at the local watering hole, playing cribbage, sharing stories, and laughter with his best buddies. Richard had a special way with both children and animals. There weren’t many babies or dogs who weren’t immediately drawn to him, and his gentle nature made him a favorite among family, friends, and neighbors alike. His kindness, humor, and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Patti; children, Tammy (Jeff) Benda of Champion, MI, and Lyle (Toni) Nordstrom of Eagle River, AK; sister, Lea Ann (Gary) White of Long Lake, WI; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; aunts, uncles, numerous extended family, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Joe Nordstrom; grandson, Ty Nordstrom; and sisters, Loretta Willison and Carol Nordstrom.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Gary White officiating.
Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
