Robert “Bob” L. Benter, age 78, of Tipler, WI, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Bob was born on May 28, 1945, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Louis and Elsie (Anderson) Benter. He attended the Florence schools, graduating from Florence High School, with the Class of 1964. He married the former Sally Thoney on August 24, 1968, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Beechwood and the couple made their home in Tipler. They celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in 2007 and Sally preceded him in death on June 7, 2008. Bob was employed as an equipment operator by the Pine River Lumber Company for 32 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Tipler, a member of the Church Council, a member of the Long Lake Rescue Squad, an ATV Instructor, and the Long Lake Fire Chief. Bob also served on the Tipler town board. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and ATVing. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and L.A. Dodgers fan. Bob was very active in the community and enjoyed volunteering for many different activities. He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Tim) Johnson of De Pere, WI and Lauri (David) LaCount of Oneida, WI; sister, Bonnie Harju of Iron River; nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and special friend, Barb Brzoznowski. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, William; sister, Constance Benter; and brother-in-law, Dick Harju. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 9:30 am to 11:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor Dale Baumler to officiate. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River.
