Robert R. Hooper, Jr., age 78, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was born on September 30, 1941 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Robert and Lucille (Potter) Hooper, Sr. Bob attended the Iron River Schools, graduating with the Class of 1961. He then attended Barber School in Flint, MI. Bob married the former Sue Haggard on October 5, 1963 in Crystal Falls, MI. The couple made their home in Iron River and celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. He started his career cutting hair on the KI Sawyer Air Force Base. He moved to Marquette, MI for a short time, before his love of home brought him back to Iron River. Bob started out humbly with just a chair on the corner of the Iron Inn. He and his brother Jim opened Hoop’s Hair Coop, a full service salon and barber shop. After his brother left, he moved the shop to Genesee Street next to Car Quest Auto Parts. He spent 48 years in business in Iron River. When not working, he enjoyed hunting, archery, bowling, fishing, camping, and being in the outdoors. Bob is survived by his wife, Sue; daughters, Debbie (Andrew) Uren of Caspian, MI and Julie Hooper of Eugene, OR; three grandchildren, Robert (Michelle) and Christopher (Toni) Aldegarie and Ashley (Vince Banta) Nordstrom; great grandchildren, Carson and Cameron Aldegarie and Logan Banta ; brother, Jim Hooper of Florida; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Kevin Nordstrom Jr. and sister, Bonnie Levandoski. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 11:30am to 12:45pm at Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. A memorial service will follow at 1pm with Pastor Avery Carr to officiate.
