Robert E. Mattson

Robert E. Mattson, age 82, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls, MI. He was born on November 27, 1938 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Elver and Marian (Hyostek) Mattson. Robert graduated from the Iron River High School with the Class of 1957. He was a US Marine Corps veteran, serving from 1957 to 1960. Robert married Sandra Stefanovich in October 1959. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2020. He was employed as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service. Robert was a licensed pilot. He loved to fish and go boating and was involved with AA for many years. He also had his own logging business. Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra; sons, Mark (Kelly) Mattson and Richard (Cindy) Mattson, both of Iron River; brother, Jerry (Marlyn) Mattson of Milwaukee, WI; sisters-in-law, Chris Langenberg and Janice Colville; grandchildren, Jason, Jeremy, Jennifer, Robert, Joshua, Tanya, Jamie, Sheena, and Indie; 25 great grandchildren; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Mattson. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 3rd, 2021 at the Upper Peninsula Calvary Bible Church, located at 2 West Monroe Street, Iron River, with Rev. Mark Mattson to officiate.
