Robert “Bob” W. Peterson, age 78, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on March 30, 1944, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Hoinowski) Peterson. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the class of 1962. He then attended Northern Michigan University for his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education. Bob married Lynn Peterson on July 30, 2002, in Crystal Falls, MI. The couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this year. He was employed as a teacher and later a principal for West Iron County Schools. Bob was a member First Lutheran Church, where he had been a past Sunday School teacher and Church Council member. He had been a member of the Stambaugh Fire Department and later the Tri-City Fire Department. Bob had also been involved in local government, having served as a Stambaugh City Commissioner and Stambaugh Mayor. He was also a former member and past secretary and treasurer of the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671. He enjoyed spending time at camp, playing cribbage and scored a perfect hand of 29 points, and was an avid golfer and shot a hole-in-one, twice while playing at the Iron River Country Club. Bob is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughter, Kimberly Peterson of Cary, IL; and her mother, Sally Helgeson of Iron River, MI; brother, Alan (Cheryl) Peterson of Green Bay, WI; sister, Janice James of San Marcos, CA; granddaughters, Paige Nordstrom, Clarissa Dool, and Leah Nordstrom; extended family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Keri Nordstrom. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
