Robert A. Sandri

June 30, 1934 — April 9, 2017

Robert A. Sandri, age 82, of Crystal Falls, MI, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls. He was born June 30, 1934, in Crystal Falls Township, the son of the late Andrew and Pauline (Gemo) Sandri. He attended the Crystal Falls Schools and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Robert was a carpenter by profession for 30 years residing mainly in the greater Chicago area. He retired to his family home near Amasa in 1987 and lived there peacefully until he suffered a massive stroke in early 1992. Despite the severity of his condition, his determination to recover remained strong and he made significant progress - including helping his eldest son renovate a home in 1996. Several years later he was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease and was admitted to the Iron Country Medicare Facility. In his youth, Robert was well known in the Upper Peninsula for his athletic prowess playing baseball. His passion for the game was tireless and lifelong but still a distant second to the love he had for his family and friends. During the worst parts of his illness he always had a smile and a gleam in his eye when a new visitor or photograph arrived in his room. Greatest of all his loves was that which he had for his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Robin (Terry) Dean of Lancaster, CA; sons, Robert (Karna) Sandri of Batavia, IL and Greg Sandri of Oshkosh, WI; grandchildren, Jim, Eric and Kimberly Dean, Anna and Matthew Sandri; and sister, Bertina Haybrock of Chicago, IL. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Leo “Porkie”, Chester and Arthur; and eight sisters Edith Gustafson, Prena Thomas, Irma Del Veccio, Mary Greco, Alta McCarter, Janette Mahoski, Esther Reno and Angeline Nix. Private family services will be held. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Robert A. Sandri, please visit our flower store.
