Roger W. Bofinger, 81, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

He was born on July 3, 1944, in Uniondale, NY, the son of the late Otto and Gertrude (Hollstein) Bofinger. Roger attended the Pemberton, NJ Schools, graduating with the class of 1962. He then attended Paul Smith’s College New York, earning an Associate Degree in Forestry in 1965. Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968-1969. He also served in the Army National Guard with the 131st Engineering Company in Burlington, VT.

Roger married Charlotte Sage on August 17, 1990, in West Yellowstone, MT. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year.

He was employed as a Forestry Technician in the U.S. Forest Service in Vermont at the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station in Burlington, VT for 10 years and then at the Ottawa National Forest in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 22 years. Roger was a life member of the AMVETS Post 436 of Beechwood, serving as Commander, and a life member of the VFW Ottawa Post 3134 and the Beechwood Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting, making maple syrup, and woodworking. Family was most important to Roger and service to the community.

Roger is survived by his wife, Charlotte Bofinger of Iron River, MI; children, Mary Sue Moten of Green Bay, WI, Jonathan (Mary) Bofinger of Iron River, MI, Laura (Joe) Moening of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Mark (Adriana Cruz) Bofinger of Galesville, WI; stepdaughter, Jamie (Forrest) Jones of Ellsworth AFB, SD; grandchildren, Emma, Ethan, Lara, and Dominic Bofinger, Brittany Fleming, Alexzander and Gabrielle Moten, Alyvia Lori and Lucas Moening, and William Smithson IV; great grandchild, Toryn Fleming; nieces, Jennifer Bofinger and Lise (David Conant) Bofinger, extended family, friends, and his four-legged friend, Bailey.

He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lenita (Demming) Bofinger and nephew, Chris Bofinger.

Services will be held at the Beechwood Hall at a later date.

Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roger’s memory to the Beechwood Historical Society and the AMVETS Post 436 of Beechwood.
