Roger G. Gill, age 77, of Iron River, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Iron River Care Center. He was born July 31, 1939 Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the oldest of ten children of the late Raymond and Nina June (Lamoreaux) Gill. He was employed as a truck driver for James Trucking and then Shamions. Roger married the former Margaret Lincoln on June 19, 1971 in Iron River, and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary in 2013. Margaret preceded him in death on May 14, 2014. He loved his family and horses, and enjoyed attending horse pulls, farming, mechanics and carpentry. He was always busy working on something. Roger is survived by his children, Lori Grey (Jack Sweeney) of Pickford, MI, Joan Hansen of Crystal Falls, Glen (Ioneta) Gill of Marion, OH, Darrin (Andrea) Gill of Gaastra, Dan Gill of Iron River, Connie Battye of Gaastra, Candie Devore of Iron River, and Carrie (John) Nelson of Iron River; siblings, Melba (Orrin) Nichols of Iron River, Beverly Reynolds of Cheboygan, MI, Rodney (Laura) Gill of Caspian, Katherine (Gary) McCabe of Iron Mountain, Alice (Gerald ) Albrecht of Newald, WI, Shirley Graves of Long Lake, WI, and Freida (Jerry) Carlson of Iron River; 22 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Roger, brothers, Robert and Norman and grandchildren, Cody and Curtis. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Iron River Bible Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Floyd Lamoreaux to officiate. Interment will be in Bates Township Cemetery.
