Roland Scalcucci

Roland ""Rito"" Scalcucci Age 91 Iron River, MI Died March 23, 2012 at Northstar Health System in Iron River. Born: January 15, 1921 in Iron River, MI. The son of the late Steven and Mae (Giovanelli) Scalcucci attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1939. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the American and Asiatic-Pacific Theaters. He was employed by the M.A. Hanna Mining Company, working at the Groveland Mine for over 22 years, retiring in 1981. Rito married the former Eleanore Malinowski on July 29, 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1963. He later married Eva (Dati) Fregetto on April 19, 1980 and the couple celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary in 2005. Eva preceded him in death on February 20, 2012. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the VFW Ottawa Post #3134, and the American Legion. Rito enjoyed gardening, cooking, sports, especially bocce ball. He is survived by his three sons; Gary (Sandi) Scalcucci of Iron River Michael Scalcucci of Bradenton, FL Steven (Carrie) Scalcucci of Batavia, IL Two stepsons, Peter (Alice) Fregetto, Grand Junction, CO Gene (Judy) Fregetto, Des Plaines, IL One sister, Margaret Scalcucci of Iron River Eight grandchildren, Ashlee Scalcucci, B.J. Scalcucci, James Scalcucci, Jack Scalcucci, Katie (Mike Ates) Fregetto, Julie Fregetto, Cynthia Munoz, and Rick Nydan He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Amo, Nello, and Leonard ""Bob"" Scalcucci. Visitation: Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside service. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
