Roman F. Gajewski, age 88, Iron River, MI died Sunday April 27, 2008 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. Born: August 13, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI The son of the late Walter and Anna (Jemrozy) Gajewski was one of 21 children. He attended St. Hegwig school and Milwaukee Trade School in Milwaukee. He was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII in the American, Asiatic and Pacific Theaters. Roman married the former Frances Hibbard July 3, 1948 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River. The couple celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary in 2007. He was employed by the Mining Company in Iron County from 1953-1968 until the mines closed. The couple moved to Milwaukee, WI and he was employed by Allis Chalmers. In 1969 he was employed by the Michigan Highway Department and was an inspector until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement the couple moved to the Gaylord area until returning to Iron River in July 2007. The couple enjoyed dancing. Roman was a people person. He loved his family, grandchildren and his dog Lady. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a life member of the VFW. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Frances Daughter, Lisa (Rick) Trever of Gaylord, MI Grandchildren; Rachel Marie and Joseph Anthony Great Grandchildren; Megan Marie and Morgan Gabrial Olds Brother, Aloysius Gajewski of Las Vegas, NV Nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. A Liturgical Prayer service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service: Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The West Side Veterans Council will accord Military Rites.
