Ronald A. Denis

Ronald “Ron” A. Denis, age 87, of Gaastra, MI, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Iron River Care Center. He was born December 15, 1927 in Gaastra, MI, the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Moger) Denis. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Ronald married the former Beatrice Burnside on June 8, 1947 in Napa, CA, and the couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 1992. Beatrice preceded him in death on September 10, 1992. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River, American Legion Reino Post #21, member and Past President of the U.S. Steel Workers Union #6499. He was also involved in the Big Brother Program. He was an avid Packer fan, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and especially his beagles. Ronald is survived by his daughter, Lorna Denis of Gaastra, niece and nephews, and his “Little Brother”, Cristopher Shimek. He was also preceded in death by his son, Arthur “Hoggie” Denis, brother, Curtis Denis, and sister, Avis Belongie. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
