Ronald Leroy Edlund, age 76, of Iron River passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 23rd. Ron was born on May 11, 1935 in Stambaugh to the late Stanford and Mary (Anderson) Edlund. After graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1953, Ron served in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge, Ron married the former Marie Ann Johnson of Gaastra in 1957. He was then employed by the Inland Steel Mining Company, working at the Sherwood Mine in Iron River until 1977 and then the Minorca Mine in Virginia, MN. Upon his retirement in 1985, Ron and Marie moved back to Michigan to be near their family. Until he was no longer able, Ron enjoyed volunteering at Friday night fish fries at the Reino Post 21. By his family and friends, Ron is remembered as a devoted husband and father, an avid outdoorsman and gentle soul. He was happiest when surrounded by his family or in the tranquility of his hunting camp. Those who knew Ron will miss his strength of character and bashful smile. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by brothers Allen and Curtis Edlund and sister Gloria Brown. Ron is survived by his wife Marie; best friend and fishing partner, son Ron (Tina) Edlund; daughter Jayne (Jeff) Carlson; brother Raymond (Margaret) Edlund; sister Barbara Edlund; and mother-in-law Anna Hayes, all of Iron River. Ron is also survived by his beloved granddaughters, Lyn Carlson of Iron River and Dr. Sarah Carlson of Boston, MA. Ron is greatly missed by his family, friends, and special canine pals Phoebe, Penny, Roscoe, and Lily. A celebration of Ron 's life will be held at his hunting camp at a later date.
