Ronald “Ron” F. Smith, age 75, of Nelma, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2016 surrounded by his family, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 3, 1940 in Antigo, WI, the son of the late Joseph E. and Linda (Frisch) Smith. He was a high school graduate. Ron was a well-known local businessman that made a difference in his community, establishing four businesses in the Alvin, WI area, Brule River Tap, the Backwoods Motel, Brule River Builders, and the Y Not Here, which he has successfully operated since 2003. He was a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League. Ron is well known for the love he felt for his children. Ron’s stories of fly fishing, hunting, and old times were enjoyed by his friends and customers, and he will be remembered by many for his sharp wit and sense of humor. Ron is survived by his children, Barb (Paul) Joki of Nelma, Jackie (Randy) Wall of Iron River, MI, Chris (Curt) Smith of Green Bay, WI, David (Heidi) Smith of Seymour, WI, Gary (Tara) Smith of Iron River, MI, and Shannon (Tanya) Smith of Shawano, WI; brother Bill (Jill) Smith of Nelma; grandchildren, Valerie, Steven, Jeffrey, Debbie, Noah, Adam, Nicole, and Kendra; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Liam, Brooklyn, Aubrey, and Jaylynn; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sarah A Celebration of life will be held Sunday, April 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Y Not Here, Nelma, WI.
