Rose Theresa Cristan Age 94 Caspian, Michigan Passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Northstar Health System in Iron River, MI. Rose was born on October 25, 1918 in Crystal Falls, MI, the 6th of 7 children of the late Attilio and Mary (Pintarelli) Tirapelli. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene (Gene) Cristan and her siblings; four brothers, Premo, Natale, Alexander (Piccolo), Attilio (Babe) and two sisters, Laura (Richards) and Margaret (Selmo). She was married to Eugene (Gene) Cristan of Caspian, Michigan on November 18, 1945 at Camp Perry, Ohio where Gene 's cousin Father Julius Valentinelli was stationed. Father Velentinelli officiated the ceremony. Gene and Rose enjoyed ballroom dancing. Rose graduated and instructed at what is now Northern Michigan University cosmetology studies. She taught cosmetology for seven years. Prior to her marriage to Gene Cristan, she worked with her sister, Laura who owned Waldorf Hair Shoppe. Rose owned and operated Rose Antiques in Caspian, MI in the sixties. She also owned and operated Rose Anne's Beauty Shoppe in Caspian for several years, while raising her children. Rose was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Caspian, Michigan where she was a member of the St. Anne Society and an instructor for Catholic Christian Doctrine (CCD) for the children. All of her children were baptized and confirmed at St. Cecilia 's as well. Rose was a member of the Third Order of Mount Carmel and was a living example of her faith. She was a member of the Progressive Woman 's Group who organized Caspian city events to bring people into the community. They organized Maxwell Streets Day, the annual Bratwurst feed, Italian Days among other events. She was the Vice President of the Club of Caspian Yarn Spinners, President of The Elite Club of Caspian, member of the Iron County Welcoming Committee and the Caspian Athletic Association. She received the Iron County Mother of the year award. Her children agree she was an exceptional mother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Teresa Cristan of Oshkosh, WI and her eight children: David (Nancy) Cristan of Stevens Point, WI, Gene (Carla) Cristan of Lake Mary, FL, Mary (Robert) Baumgartner of Iron River, MI, Rose (Joel) Margolus of Victoria, BC, Theresa (Steven) Bangle of Maui, HI, Tony (Debbie) Cristan of Iron River, MI, Margaret Cristan of Ashville, NC, Regina Cristan of Portland, OR. She is also survived by 24 Grandchildren and 24 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian, MI with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in the Stambaugh Cemetery. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI.
