Roy J. Stewart, age 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. He was born May 13, 1929 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late Roy and Josephine (Karle) Stewart. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and was employed by Allis Chalmers for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1982. Roy married the former Ramona Rappe Mount on June 7, 1969 at Fairview Lutheran Church of Milwaukee, WI. They celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year. The couple moved to the Iron River area in the mid 1980’s to make their home, and Roy worked repairing water lines in Iron County. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Iron River, the UAW, and served as President on the Iron County Fair Board. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and was an all-around handyman. Roy is survived by his wife, Ramona; daughters, Jean (Dennis Krueger) Brown of Luxemburg, WI, Eileen Brown of Kenosha, WI, Karen (Robert) Kehlenbrink of Brookfield, WI, Julie (Glen) Miester of Milwaukee, WI, and Peggy (Dennis) McCarver of Cave Creek, AZ; sons, Herbert (Cynthia) Mount of Sturgeon Bay, WI, and Daniel Mount of Carnation, WA; sister, Mabel (Floyd) Johnson of Tucson, AZ; brother, Fredrick Stewart of Nunica, MI; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Luise Kudwa Visitation will be held Monday, October 26, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:45 at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robin Zeratsky to officiate. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
