Mrs. Ruby M. Aschinger, age 91, Iron River, MI died Saturday December 1, 2007 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River. Born: November 26, 1916 in Laona, WI. The daughter of the late Harvey and Delia (Collard) Belland grew up in Laona, WI. She attended the Laona schools graduating from Bay View high school, Milwaukee in 1934. She then attended the St. Vincent's School of Pediatric and Obstetrics in Chicago, IL graduating in 1938. She started her nursing career at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. She later returned to Laona and worked at the Laona Hospital. She married Arlyn Aschinger June 24, 1946 at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Laona. The couple later moved to Iron River to make their home and Ruby worked at the Stambaugh General Hospital for 18 years. She retired in 1979 after working many years for Dr. Retallack at his office. The couple celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this year. Ruby was a very active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church participating in many church activities. She was a CCD teacher for many years. She was a member of St. Agnes Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, Rosary Sodality and the VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by four brothers; Homer, Patrick, Harvey Jr. and Michael, and two sisters; Fern and Joyce. She is survived by her husband, Arlyn Two sons, A. Michael (Carol ) Aschinger, Jr., Iron River, MI. Alan John Aschinger, Honolulu, HI Two Grandchildren, Michael and Kathleen Nieces and nephews Visitation: Wednesday, December 5, 2007 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Gathering Room, St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River. Funeral Services: Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Iron River, with the Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of the Rosary Sodality and Daughters of Isabella will form an honor guard at the funeral service. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River, MI Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
