Ruby T. Scalcucci

Ruby T. Scalcucci, age 99, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on December 26, 1919 in Iron River, MI, the daughter of the late Vladimiro and Susie (Sacchetti) Casini. She attended and graduated from the Iron River Schools with the Class of 1937.  Ruby married Oliver Axelson on June 30, 1940 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and he preceded her in death on February 21, 1974.  On December 8, 1978, she married Amo J. Scalcucci at St. Agnes Catholic Church and he also preceded her in death on October 9, 2004. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Altar Society, and the Italian Ladies Society.  Ruby enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, decorating for holidays, entertaining her bridge club friends, keeping close to her family and friends, and making people smile.  She enjoyed spending 36 years at her cottage on Lake Gogebic and loved her time while living in White Pine, MI.  Ruby also enjoyed golfing as well. Ruby is survived by her son, Patrick L. (Lynn Toumi) Axelson of Duluth, MN; stepson, Fran (Eleanor) Scalcucci of Montgomery, OH, and three grandchildren, Kirsti Axelson of Virginia, MN, Dr. Amy (Matt) Carrico of Owensborro, KY, and Shannon (Richard) Bassi of Indianapolis, IN; six great grandsons and two great granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and extended family. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Fayette and Patsy Casini. Visitation will be held Monday, November 11, 2019 from 9:30 to 10:45am at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.  Funeral services will follow at 11am at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.  The Italian Ladies Society will form an honor guard at the service. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
