Ruth I. Champion, age 96, Iron River, MI died Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. Born: March 10, 1912 in Stambaugh, MI The daughter of the late John and Jennie (Berg) Westman attended the Stambaugh schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1929. She married Ernest Champion in 1935. In 1957 the couple moved to Ann Arbor, MI. He preceded her in death in 1971. In 1973 she returned to Iron River to make her home. Ruth was employed as a telephone operator in Iron River for 12 years and Ann Arbor County retiring in 1968. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River and the Faith Circle at the First Lutheran Church. Ruth was a life member of the Eastern Star 410 of Iron River and the Stambaugh Womens Club. She was an energetic person with a zest for living, and enjoyed visiting with others. She was also preceded in death by an infant son Richard, daughter Beth Hyatt, brothers; Earl, Paul, and Willis, and sisters; Alice Baker, Virginia Erickson, Bernice Nystrom, and Florence Erickson and dear friend Patsy Dascola. She is survived by her son Robert Champion of Iron River Son-in-law, Morris Hyatt of Troy, MI Sister, Eunnice (Raymond) Zwach of Iron River Grandaughters; Amy (fiance' William Surface) and Melanie Hyatt Nieces and nephews Visitation: Tuesday June 3, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, MI. Funeral Service: Wed. June 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen, pastor to officiate.
