Ruth M. Faehling, age 61, of Caspian, MI, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at her home.She was born August 8, 1952 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of Ruby (Jensen) Faehling and the late Robert E. Faehling. Ruth grew up in Iron River prior to moving to Milwaukee, WI, upon graduation from West Iron County High School in 1970. Ruth was employed as a CNA for many years. She then apprenticed for two years in furniture refinishing before opening her own business, specializing in restoration of pianos and antiques. Her woodworking skills were sought after by antique dealers and private collectors.Prior to her return to Iron River, Ruth worked as an advocate for senior citizens for the Social Development Commission of Milwaukee. She supervised carpenters installing safety devices for low income senior citizen crime victims and domestic abuse cases. In 1993, Ruth returned to Iron County, working as a Library Technician.Ruth enjoyed morning coffee and late-night bonfires. Photography, travel, cooking, Bruce Springsteen music, fishing, camping, and the Green Bay Packers were passions of hers. Remodeling her home, gardening, and landscaping brought her great joy. She had compassion for animals and humanity. Her unselfish giving of her time and knowledge touched all those she knew. She cherished her children and niece and nephews. Ruth is survived by her life partner, Barbara Bartel; son, Victor Alphonso Bartel of Caspian; daughter, Frances Elena Bartel of Midland, MI; mother, Ruby Jensen Crowgey; brothers, Steven Faehling of Iron River, and Robert (Evelyn) Faehling of West Bend, WI; sisters, JoAnn (Patrick) Wales of Monico, WI, and Diane (George) Clark of Oostburg, WI; brother-in-law, Tim Bartel of Milwaukee; special niece, Jennifer Bartel of Milwaukee; other nieces, nephews, and extended family.Visitation will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Dawn Treado Green to officiate.
