Santina "Tootsie" Wales

Santina “Tootsie” Wales, age 88, of Iron River, MI, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland, MI. She was born June 26, 1929 in Gaastra, MI, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Schilla) Palumbo.  She attended and graduated from the Stambaugh High School, with the Class of 1947. Santina married Wallace “Wally” Woempner on August 18, 1953 and he preceded her in death in 1988. On August 8, 1992, she married Gordon “Froggy” Wales in Iron River. He also preceded her in death in 1996. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Dickinson Iron Health Department for 28 years. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and the St. Agnes Alter Society. Santina enjoyed reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles, traveling and especially spending quality time with her grandchildren. Santina is survived by her daughters, Donna (Michael) Bouvier of McCordsville, IN, Debbie Bailey (Mike Paul) of Midland, MI; grandchildren, Alex Bouvier of McCordsville, IN, Jessica (Tim) DeGraff of South Lyons, MI and Michael Bailey of Royal Oak, MI; two great grandchildren, Evan and Colin DeGraff; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Palumbo. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, with prayers led by Santina’s nephew, Rev. Michael Woempner. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
