""/p> Serge A. Nelson Age 101 Gary, IN (formerly of Stambaugh, MI)died Friday June 17, 2011 at the Methodist North Lake Campus, Gary, IN. Born: May 14, 1910 in Darlana Sweden The son of the late Anders and Bernadina (Sundin) Nelson attended school in Sweden and graduated. He moved to the United States at the age of 17 and was employed as a pipe fitter in Chicago for 50 years, retiring in 1962. Serge married the former Elvera Larson on June 6, 1936 in Chicago, IL and the couple moved to the Iron River area in the early 1970's to make their home. They celebrated their golden Wedding Anniversary in 1986. Elvera preceded him in death in 2001. In 2003, he moved to Indiana to be near his sons. He was a member of the Grace Covenant Church, Iron River, and the Pipe Fitters Union in Chicago. He enjoyed being outside cutting grass. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild; two sisters, Irma Hendrickson and Siri Johnson; and four brothers Helge, Nels, Ossian and Tagy Nelson. He is survived by two sons; Melvin Nelson of Gary Indiana Floyd (Jacqueline) Nelson of Porter, IN Two grandchildren and six great grandchildren Visitation: Monday, June 27, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Grace Covenant Church, Iron River. Funeral Service: Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Grace Covenant Church, Iron River, with Rev. James Swanson II to officiate.
