Shirley ""Candy"" Mae Leighton, age 82, Iron River, MI, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. Born: September 28, 1925 in Racine, WI The daughter of the late John Paul and Margaret (Rink) Kanyuh attended Harlick High School and graduated. She then attended the Milwaukee School of Nursing, where she received her LPN. She was employed in home health care for over 23 years. Candy married Frederick Leighton in 1943 and the couple made their home in Racine. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, Eastern Star, Rachel Sisters, Boystown, and the Humane Society, both local and national. She enjoyed quilting, doll collecting, and foster care of animals. She is survived by two sons; Randy Leighton of Oland, Sweden John (Debbie) Leighton of Florence, WI One daughter, Freddie (Dwayne) Ingebrigtsen of Gladstone, MI One sister, Jacqueline Mianecki of Iron River Five grandchildren Seven great grandchildren Three special nieces Two special nephews Her beloved pets Per her request, private family services will be held.
