Shirley A. Paul Age 85 Caspian, MIDied Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Northstar Health System, Iron River, MI. Born: August 28, 1925 in Gaastra, Michigan. The daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gregones) Jonaus attended the Gaastra and Palatka Schools and graduated from Stambaugh High School in 1943. Following graduation, she lived in Detroit, MI and worked for the U.S. War Department in the Detroit Ordnance Department for about one and one-half years. Shirley married Charles Paul on January 25, 1947 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. Shirley was employed by the Montgomery Ward Store in Iron River in 1946, by the J.C. Penny Store from 1965 to 1967, and by the Caspian and Herbert Construction Companies from 1967 to 1983. Shirley and Charles celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 1987. Charles preceded her in death on September 16, 1987. Shirley was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Ann's Society, the Sewing Club, Tops Club, Wishful Thinkers Club, Paisano Club of Upper Michigan, Northwoods Reading Book Club, and was an avid follower of Trentino-Tyrolean Club. Shirley was also a CCD Instructor in the church. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, skiing, reading, gardening, canning vegetables, and cooking (especially Italian). She loved her rose garden and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son John in 1992, and two sisters, Liz Rizzardi and Helen Rometti. She is survived by her sons, Charles (Peggy) Paul of Marquette, MI Robert Paul of Spread Eagle, WI James Paul of Caspian Daughter-in-law, Jill Paul of Iron River Brother, Lawrence (Joline) Jonaus of Grand Haven, MI Grandchildren, James, Janet, Jessica, Debbie, and Christopher Great Grandchildren, Trenton and Levi Visitation: Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Ladies of St. Ann's Society will form an honor guard at the service. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
