Simon E. Maki, age 94 of Iron River, MI, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. Born: September 1, 1915 in Iron River, MI The son of the late Simon and Amanda (Talvitie) Maki attended the Iron River schools. He was in the CC Camps and later served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Simon married the former Elsie Hautala on January 1, 1943 in Barberton, OH, and the couple made their home in Iron River. Elsie preceded him in death. He was employed as a miner by M.A. Hanna Mining Company, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Iron River and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed hunting and dancing. He is survived by his son, Bruce (Jean) Maki of Iron River Daughter, Donna (Chris) Sayre of Iron River Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren He was also preceded in death by his son, Wade. Visitation: Monday, March 1, 2010 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Services: Monday, March 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River with Rev. Kevin Kaiser to officiate. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the funeral. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River.
