Sonne J. Stowell

Sonne J. Stowell, age 78, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born on November 27, 1941 in Clawson, MI, the daughter of the late Walter and Elaine (Archer) Babb. She attended and graduated from the Clawson Schools, with the Class of 1959. Following graduation, she attended the Detroit Business College. Sonne married Gale Stowell on December 13, 1974 in Ontonagon, MI, and the couple made their home in Iron River. They both received Citizen of the Year awards from the Kiwanis in 1975. The couple celebrated 40 wonderful years together, before Gale preceded her in death on February 18, 2015. Sonne served as a 4-H Activity Coordinator for 18 years, retiring in 2003. She attended the Lakeland Baptist Church, and was a member of the Beechwood Historical Society and the Iron County Fair Board. She enjoyed working with stained glass and gardening. Sonne is survived by her sons, Adam W. (Carey) Johnson of Wyoming, and Jeff Johnson of Iron River; sister, LaVonne (Richard) Hamby of Troy, MI; and grandchildren, Noah and Ryker Johnson. In addition to her parents, and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Smith. Services will be held at a later date.
