Stanley L. Mastie

Stanley L. Mastie, also known as Grandpa Cookies, age 88, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on September 26, 1933, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Michael and Sophia (Philipkowski) Mastie. Stanley attended and graduated from the Stambaugh Schools. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran. Stanley married Jeanette Hookenson on October 26, 1957, at St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church in Iron River. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2021. He was employed as a security guard at Ford Motor Co.in Rawsonville, MI for 23 years. He retired in 1995. Stanley was a past member of the VFW Ottawa Post #3134. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed being in the woods. Stanley also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and reminiscing about old times. He also loved animals. Stanley is survived by his wife, Jan; daughters, Geralyn Mastie and Cynthia (James Duncan) Couchene, both of Iron River, MI; daughter-in-law, Shelley Mastie of Grand Ledge, MI; sister, Helen Shurtliff of Ann Arbor, MI; grandchildren, Nicole (Aric) Minney, Rachel (Brandon) Wessel, Lindsay (Mike) Pelette, and Melissa (Sam) Allen; great grandchildren, Theodore and Lucille Minney, Charlotte Wessel, Abigail and Lucas Allen, and Nathan and Emily Pelette; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Mastie; brothers, Henry, John “Pug”, Frank, and Joseph Mastie; and sisters, Della Bemis and Bernice Brunelli.
