Stella M. Doenitz

Stella M. Doenitz, 89, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, September, 10, 2013 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI. She was born January 26, 1924 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Helseski) Swendeusz. She attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from Iron River High School with the Class of 1941. She was employed at J.C. Penny 's and the Matt Toti Store for many years. Stella married Edmund Wodzinski in 1941 and he died in 1944. She married Harland Doenitz on August 12, 1951 in Iron River, MI, and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2001. Harland preceded her in death on June 7, 2003. Stella was a member of St. Agnes Church Catholic Church of Iron River and the Rosary Sodality. She was a former member of the Assumption Church and Ladies of Mary. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Martin. Stella is survived by her son, Edward (Diane) Wodzinski of De Pere, WI; daughters, Diane (Robert) Thomas of Midland, MI, and Jane (Phillip) Butler of Iron River; sister, Sophie Holland of Appleton, WI; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of the Rosary Sodality will form an Honor Guard at the service. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River. Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
