Stephen H. Ivens, PhD., age 82, of Trout Creek, MI, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. He was born on July 21, 1941, in Bloomington, IL, the son of the late Howard and Mary Jo (Allington) Ivens. Stephen graduated from University High School in Normal, IL. He then attended Illinois State University for his undergraduate and master’s degrees. He later earned a PhD from Florida State. Stephen married Karen Bunn on June 9, 1963, at Second Presbyterian Church in Bloomington, IL. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He was employed as a math teacher at Lincoln Way High School in New Lenox, IL. Stephen was at the college board for 18 years. He headed the group to do the first redesign of the SAT. And for over 20 years, he was Vice President of TASA, a privately owned educational testing company, and the Head of Marketing and Sales. Stephen was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Iron River, MI. He enjoyed reading. Stephen is survived by wife, Karen; son, James (Cara) Ivens of Menominee, WI; daughters, Diane (Daren) Colaiacovo of Pine Brook, NJ and Stephanie (Mark) Manzanares of Ironwood, MI; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jo Ann Laible. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 12 noon at Jacobs Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Poindexter to officiate. A visitation will follow the service until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
