Sylvia Sophie (Gurchinoff) Esbrook, age 90, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born on May 21, 1930 in Stambaugh, MI, the daughter of the late Stephen and Rose (Kanevcevich) Gurchinoff. She graduated from the Stambaugh High School. She married David Esbrook in 1948. They had 11 children. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Iron River. She was a 4-H leader for many years and taught crocheting and knitting. She also was a member of the Mother's Club of Caspian. Sylvia was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed her love of the outdoors; fishing, hiking, and gardening on to her children, along with her artistic talent. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting, knitting, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed her trips with her sisters to the casinos. Sylvia is survived by her sons, David Esbrook, Tom Esbrook, Michael Esbrook, Joe (Jackie) Esbrook and Peter Esbrook; daughters, Diane Puskala, Rosanne (John) Iho, Judy Esbrook (Randy Jump), Lori Esbrook, Kathy (Paul) Nardi and Terri Esbrook; brothers, James (Diana) Gurchinoff, Tom (Mary Ann) Gurchinoff; sisters, Leona "Shorty" (Jack) Benson, Pauline Jagemann and Louise (Merwyn) Williams; sister-in-law, Colien Gurchinoff; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Sylvia was proceeded in death by her brothers, Stanley Gurchinoff, George Gurchinoff, Leo Gurchinoff, Peter Gurchinoff, Steven Gurchinoff, and Donald Gurchinoff; granddaughter, Amy Esbrook; great grandson, Justin Henschel. Private services will be held.
