Theresa A. Kovacich, age 96, of Caspian, MI, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born May 17, 1919 in the South Brule area of Stambaugh Township (Iron County), MI, the daughter of the late Stanley and Antonette (Stzuk) Czapiga. She attended Stambaugh High School. Theresa married Joseph Kovacich on July 16, 1938 at the former Assumption Catholic Church of Iron River and the couple celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2000. Joseph preceded her in death on June 18, 2001. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, St. Ann’s Society, the Busy Stitchers, and the Women’s Bocce League. She enjoyed working with children as a 4-H Leader for 25 years, and also enjoyed cooking, baking, and doing crafts, especially with four-leaf clovers. Theresa is survived by her sons, David (Karen) Kovacich of Trout Lake, MI, and Joseph (Regan) Kovacich of Gleason, WI; daughters, Carol Busakowski of Caspian, Joann (Don) Sebo of Valders, WI, and Beth (Gary) Ross of Oscoda, MI; sister, Florence Madaski of Owosso, MI; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward and Walter Czapiga. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Father Jose Marattam to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Cecilia Catholic Church or the Iron County Historical Museum. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery.
