Thomas K. Beber, age 80, of Iron River, MI, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital, Marquette, MI. He was born March 24, 1934, the son of the late Celeste and Bertha (Jaakola) Beber. He attended the Wakefield Schools, graduating with the Class of 1952. He was a member of the “Barracks Boys” Football Team at Northern Michigan University under Coach “Red” Money. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and following his honorable discharge attended and graduated from Michigan Technological University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for over 40 years. Thomas married the former Nancy K. Hagland on August 16, 1958 in Wakefield, and the couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2013. Nancy preceded him in death on December 13, 2013. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, the Kiwanis Club, the Geneology Club, and the West Iron County Booster Club. He served as the last Mayor of Stambaugh, and on the Iron River City Council from 2000to 2009. He was an avid Wykon fan and was very civic minded. Thomas is survived by his sons, Steven Beber of Minneapolis, MN, and Patrick (Kim) Beber of Grand Haven, MI; daughters, Tracy (Patrick) Lyons of New Hyde Park, NY, and Jenifer (Brian) Gallagher of Ellicott City, MD; brother, Timothy Beber of Duluth, MN; sister, Bette Beber of Wakefield; seven granddaughters, Celeste and Catherine Lyons, Fiona, Ava, and Rori Gallagher, and Lucy and Giada Beber; and his girls (dogs), Molly and Zoe. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Little Flower Room of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
