Thomas W. Heikkila

Thomas W. Heikkila, age 67, of Iron River, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 24, 2020. He was born on June 20, 1952 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Eli and Thema (Tucker) Heikkila, Sr. He attended the Iron River Schools, graduating from West Iron County High School in 1971.  He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1974.  Thomas married the former Virginia “Ginny” Kernohan on April 10, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV.  The couple celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary last year.  Ginny preceded him in death on January 10, 2020. He was employed by Magic Glide in Amasa, MI on the production line.  He was a member of the American Legion Reino Post #21.  He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and taking care of his property. Thomas is survived by his stepsons, Murl Spence III and Travis Spence, both of Iron River, MI; step granddaughters, Samantha and Hailey Spence; brother, Eli Heikkila Jr. of Iron River, MI; extended family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Mae Mitchell.
