Thomas Alex Zyskowski, 87, died March 29th in Orange, California he was born September 8, 1929 in Iron River, of the late Walter and Michalina (Lowendowska) Zyskowski. He attended the Iron River School system and graduated in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On January 26, 1951 he married Katherine Louise Schmidt of Oak Park, Illinois. They were long term residents of Iron River. Thomas worked in the mines and in 1966 became an Iron River Policeman rising to Police Chief. After his retirement, Thomas became a part-time Sheriff then Patrolman with the Caspian Police until he again retired at the age of 79. Thomas loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many hours at his cabin on Perch Lake, and hunting trips with his brothers, John and Walter. Thomas was a devote Catholic and member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and former member of Assumption Catholic Church. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine, and daughter, Jennifer. Thomas was also preceded in death by five brothers; Joseph, Anton, Edmond, Sylvester, and John, and six sisters; Delores, Mary, Ann, Gertrude, Vicky, and Frances. Thomas is survived by his brother Walter of Iron River, his daughters Susan of Santa Ana, California and Anne (Mike) of Newport Beach, California, son David (Norrice) of Rocklin, California, grandson Eric of Orange, California, many nieces and nephews, and many friends including his dear friend Mike Goreisky. For the past five years Thomas resided in Santa Ana, California with his family. Thomas will be buried in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River next to his beloved wife Katherine and daughter Jennifer. A graveside service will be held at later date.
