Valerie A. Tomasoski

August 19, 1924 — June 19, 2017

Valerie A. Tomasoski, age 92, of Gaastra, MI, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born August 19, 1924 in Gaastra, MI, the daughter of the late Jacob and Magdalenna (Rucinski) Bal. She attended, and graduated from Stambaugh High School, and was her class Salutatorian.  She then worked in Ypsilanti during World War II, supporting the war effort, and at the Iron River National Bank when she returned to Gaastra.          Valerie married Andrew Tomasoski on May 17, 1947 and the couple made their home in Gaastra. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in 2015, and Andrew preceded her in death in November of the same year. She was employed as a secretary in the Stambaugh public school system for over 17 years, was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian and St. Ann's Society. Val loved simple pleasures including reading, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, seasonal decorating including dressing her 'goose' on the front porch in a different outfit each day, watching the birds from the kitchen window, and most of all loved to remind you she was an avid Green Bay Packers football fan. Win or lose, she loved to discuss 'the game' and answered the phone after each win with a happy, "Green Bay Packers locker room!"   Valerie is survived by her son, Donald J. (Anna) Tomasoski of Chula Vista, CA; daughter, Mary Tomasoski of Grand Haven, MI; sisters, Betty Bal of Gaastra, and Florence Brumm of Marquette; daughter-in-law, Norma Tomasoski; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her son, Paul "Tommy" Tomasoski; brothers, Art, Johnny and Joe Bal; sisters, Bernice and Nell Bal and Helen Kelleher; an infant brother, and two infant sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Valerie A. Tomasoski, please visit our flower store.
