Verna L. Hooper

Verna L. Hooper, age 83, of Iron River, MI, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. Born June 9, 1934 in Eveleth, MN, the daughter of the late Reverend Emil and Bertha (Lilja) Tervo, Verna graduated from Stambaugh High School with the Class of 1952 before attending Northern Michigan College of Education. She married Russell Hooper on February 6, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stambaugh. They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 2014. A homemaker, Verna always considered herself fortunate to have been able to stay at home to take care of her children and spend time with her grandchildren. Verna was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River. She is survived by her husband, Russ; daughters, Linda (Dave) McTaggart of Mead, WA, and Sue Hooper of Bloomington, MN; sons, David M. Hooper of Green Bay, WI, Jerry Hooper of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren, Michael Rankinen, Phillip Hooper, Lisa and Jeffrey (Kayla) Hooper, James McTaggart, Ashlyn and Rhiannon Hooper; two great-grandsons, Jordan and Dominick; and sister, Bertha (Jerry) Pangrazzi. Verna was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul and Stan; and her brothers, Stanley and Dick. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
