Mrs. Veronica H. Nardi, age 94, Caspian, MI, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at University Hospital, Madison, WI. She was born February 10, 1913 to Anna and George Adzima, then living in the Baltic Location, Gaastra, Michigan. Veronica was a young child when they moved to Caspian. After graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1931, Veronica moved to Chicago for work. She returned home from Chicago and married Geno Nardi on September 3, 1938. They were the parents of three children: Alan (Darlene) Nardi, of Sheboygan, WI; Marise (Richard) Engel of Greenville, WI; and Margot Nardi (Laurence Rodenstein) of Madison, WI. There are five grandchildren: Jeff Engel, Craig (Heidi) Engel, Keri Nardi, Keith Nardi, and Tim (Diane) Sheldon; three step-grandchildren: Betsy, Shanna, and David Rodenstein; four great grandchildren: Owen and Ian Engel, and Abigail and Spencer Sheldon. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Geno, and her siblings, Mary Bird, Joe, Ann, George, and Emory Adzima. Her sister, Agnes Klein resides in Steamwood, IL. She is also survived by numerous relatives. Veronica was a woman of uncommon kindness. She was a caregiver for her mother and mother-in-law, while at the same time raising her own children, as well as managing the household tasks. She was a woman of many domestic talents, and an active member of her community, including weekly volunteering at the Iron River Care Center, working at the polls on election day, as well as weekly volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul. She was also a member of the Stambaugh-Caspian Busy Stitchers. In addition, she was active in St. Cecilia's Church, including membership in St. Anne's Society, Daughters of Isabella, Rosary Sodality, Legion of Mary, and Third Order of Mount Carmel. Her vision slowly deteriorated after being diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. She could no longer be safe in her apartment. She moved to Madison, WI, in December 2000 to live with her daughter, Margot and her son-in-law. Throughout her struggle with the diseases of aging, she retained her Catholic faith, her smile, and her positive disposition. Veronica brought profound happiness to the many lives she touched, especially her family. Our gratitude for her will be unceasing. She showed us that hope sustains us in the midst of struggle, that faith remains in the absence of understanding, and that love endures in our hearts forever.
