Victor S. Shepich

Victor S. Shepich, 88, Caspian, MI, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, MI, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born March 5, 1925 in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Jack and Mary (Kruzich) Shepich. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating from Stambaugh High School in 1942. He attended one year of business college. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. Victor married the former Nancy Jacobson on June 21, 1947 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2012. He was employed as the Iron County Director of Social Services for 26 years prior to his retirement on September 29, 1984. He owned Vic 's Grocery Store in the Dober Location; he briefly worked for the Pickens-Mather Mining Company as a lab technician. He was then elected as Register of Deeds for Iron County for three consecutive terms as a Democrat. Victor was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, the Croatian Fraternal Union of America, Lodge #69, the Caspian Progressive Men 's Association, U.P. State Employees Retirement Association #16, the Kiwani 's Club, the Iron County Democratic Party, American Legion Reino Post #21, served on the West Iron County Board of Education, was Former President of Caspian T.V. Association, member of the Iron County Muscian 's Association, and long time member of the Iron River Country Club. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed golf, bowling, bocce ball and gardening. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Elsie and brother, Joseph Shepich. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Sons, Stephen (Jo) Shepich of Iron River John (Linda) Shepich of Hart, MI Gary (Mary) Shepich of Plainwell, MI Paul (Dianne) Shepich of Livonia, MI Sister, Rosemarie ""Mitzi"" (Chalmers) McGreaham of Caspian Eleven grandchildren Nine great grandchildren Visitation will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River in the spring. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
