Virginia H. Belongie

Virginia H. Belongie, age 79 of Iron River, MI, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Iron County Community Hospital, Iron River. She was born December 26, 1929 in Milwaukee, WI, to Walter and Sophie (Sosinski) Mahoski. She attended school in Amasa and was a 1947 graduate of Amasa High School. Virginia married Frank Kolbas on June 29, 1953; he preceded her in death. She later married Arnold Belongie on September 18, 1971; he preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, baking many different kinds of bread and in her later years going to the casino with her special friend Florence Cascioli. She was also preceded in death by two brothers; Henry Mahoski and Richard Mahoski and two sisters; Irene Mechon and Jeanette Wickman. She is survived by two sons; Peter (Michelle) Kolbas of Iron River Tony (Wendy) Kolbas of Iron Mountain, MI Two daughters: Terese (Mark) Sabotta of Iron River Kim (Donald) Aregoni of Sturgeon Bay, WI One brother, Joseph (Laura Belle) Mahoski of Ishpeming, MI Two sisters; Eleanor (Robert) Goodreau of Iron Mountain, MI Evelyn (Raymond) Grattan of Carvallis, OR 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren Two step daughters; Barbara (Rae Jim) Burnett Susan (Henry) Stephanski 11 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren Numerous nieces and nephews Special companion, her dog Buffy Visitation: Monday January 26, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Monday January 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Daniel Moll to offer Mass of Christian Burial.
