Virginia E. Bigari, age 85 of Caspian, MI, entered eternal life on Sunday, February 21. 2010 at the Iron River Care Center. She was born on August 19, 1924 in Caspian, MI and was a lifelong resident of Iron County. The daughter of the late Marsilio and Lena (Koski) Basanese attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1942. On January 23, 1943, she married Alfred Bigari at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, where the couple made their home. Alfred preceded her in death on December 5, 1989 after 46 years of marriage. Virginia retired from the West Iron County School System where she had worked as a teacher's aide. Virginia was active in St. Cecilia Church including the St. Ann's Society, Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Right to Life, Rosary Sodality, Daughters of Isabella, Minister of the Eucharist and Cup, and for many, many years as a CCD teacher. She is survived by three sons; Alfred (Carol) Bigari of Venice, FL Richard (Darlene) Bigari of Iron River Bruce (Maureen) Bigari of Genesee, WI Brother, Parnell (Arnoldine) Basanese of Watersmeet, MI Sister-in-law, Eleanor Basanese of San Jose, CA Eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren Many nieces and nephews She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Will, John, and Louis Basanese, a great-grandson, Nicholas Fenbert, and two infant siblings. Visitation will be at Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Services will be Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 11a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Caspian with Rev. Norman Clisch, pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. The ladies of St. Ann's Society and the Rosary Sodality will form an honor guard at the funeral. Interment will be at the Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River.
