Virginia M. Wilkins

Virginia Mae Wilkins, age 93, of Iron River, MI, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Aspirus Iron River Hospital. She was born December 13, 1924 in Joliet, IL, the daughter of the late Frank and Grace (Cherry) Lindberg. She attended the Joliet Township Schools, graduating with the Class of 1942. Following graduation, she attended Joliet Junior College. Virginia married Howard C. “Chuck” Wilkins on February 13, 1943, and the couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2008, before Chuck preceded her in death on June 23, 2008. She was employed as a Maps Draftswoman by the railroad for six years. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church of Iron River. She enjoyed playing piano, reading, and sewing. Virginia is survived by her sons, Gary D. (Nancy) Wilkins of Hot Springs Village, AR, and Dale B. Wilkins of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Carol Coleman of OH; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Ken Wilkins; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Richard Comer, and brother-in-law, Arthur Coleman. Visitation will be held Monday, March 26, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Iron River. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Fish to officiate.
