Wallace “Wally” R. Cooper, age 78, of Long Lake, WI, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born January 24, 1937 in Menominee, MI, the son of the late Earl and Freida (Willson) Cooper. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. Wally married the former Carol Anderson on November 3, 1957 in Iron River, MI, and the couple made their home in Long Lake. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in 2014. Wally was employed by the Florence County Highway Department for over 30 years. He also served as Chairman for the Town of Long Lake for 30 years and was very active in the community. He was a member of the Long Lake Bible Church, the VFW of Florence, the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department, and former member of the Big 4 Sportsman Club. He enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, and playing cribbage. Wally is survived by his wife Carol; son, James Cooper of Iron River; daughter, Tina Massie of Winston, OR; brothers, Tom Cooper of Marinette, MI, Loren Cooper of Wittenberg, WI, and Roger (Betty) Cooper of Rhinelander, WI; sister, Mary Persoa of Houston, TX; grandchildren Roger (Samantha) Cooper of Geneva, IL, and James Seymour of Long Lake, WI; great granddaughter, Lilly Cooper; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Clifford Massie, brothers, Richard and Roy Cooper, and sisters, Betty Olson and Pat Dams. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Long Lake Bible Church.
