Warren N. Groth, age 99, of Iron River, MI, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Aspirus Iron River. He was born on June 27, 1921 in Braham, MN, the son of the Charles and Alice (Swenson) Groth. He graduated from the Braham Schools in 1939 and worked on the family farm until enlisting in the Coast Guard in 1942, serving 4 ½ years. He served on Saipan in the Pacific Ocean, setting up an advanced communication base. On August 28, 1948, Warren married Lorraine Lindahl in Beechwood, MI. The couple celebrated their 71st anniversary in 2017, before Lorraine preceded him in death on November 14 of that same year. Warren was a self-employed logger for 60 years. He also operated the Coffee Cup, a grocery/gas/ restaurant/motel business in Beechwood. Along with his wife, they built and developed the Golden Sands Trailer Park on Golden Lake. Because of his love for working with wood, he continued to make hundreds of laminated bowls, being amazed at the beautiful grains and colors in each piece. He was a member of the Grace Covenant Church of Iron River, serving in many of the church officer positions and singing in the choir. His love for building found him working on many church and bible camp projects. He was also a member of the Amvets Post #438 of Beechwood and a founding member of the Beechwood Historical Society. Warren is survived by his sons, Lauren of Cypress, TX and Gary (Erna) of Germantown, TN; grandsons, Derek and Kyle, and many relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jon, a brother, and three sisters. Private services will be held. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Grace Covenant Church, in Warren’s name.
