William ""Bill"" R. Ahola, 74 of Chiefland, FL, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born February 28, 1939 in Stambaugh, MI, son of the late Sulo and Ellen (Pakkula) Ahola. He attended the Amasa Schools, graduating from Amasa High School with the Class of 1957. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was employed as a pharmaceutical operator by Abbott Laboratory for over 28 years, during which time Bill received his Associate 's Degree, prior to his retirement in 1990. He enjoyed 23 years of retirement with his dear wife Barb. Bill married the former Barbara J. Curtiss on July 14, 1962 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Crystal Falls and the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2012. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. An avid outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed fishing in Michigan and Ontario, Canada, deer and bird hunting, snowmobiling, skiing on family property in Amasa, golfing, bowling, and karaoke. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rudolph. William is survived by his wife, Barbara, brother, Donald (Geri) Ahola of Ishpeming, MI, and sisters, Joyce Flynn of Green Bay, WI and Jane Ahola of Amasa. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Faith Fellowship Bible Church of Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Faith Fellowship Bible Church with Pastor Cheryle Spicer to officiate. The East Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the service Funeral arrangements by the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
