William C. "" Bill"" Curtis, 85 of Iron River, Michigan, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009. Born to Jack and Doris (Mitchell) Curtis on July 9, 1924, Bill was a lifelong resident of the area. He was very well-known throughout the area, and he enjoyed his many friends, neighbors and relatives. He attended the Stambaugh schools, leaving prior to graduation to serve his country during WWII. Bill was recently awarded his high school diploma along with many other veterans. For his service in the US Army, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Iron River, the Iron River Elks Lodge #1671, VFW Ottawa Post #3134 and American Legion Reino Post #21. Bill married Janet Lundwall on September 21, 1946. They made their home in Bates and together raised four children. Bill and Janet often wintered in Kissimmee, Florida, where they made many lasting friends. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage before Janet's death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John and his sisters Doris Birdsell and Marion Curtis. Bill is survived by his children; Carol (Gary) Dinco of Colebrook, NH, Ruth Ann (Carl) Holm of Marquette, MI, Susan (Pierre) Delago of Afton, MN, and William (Char) Curtis of Crystal Falls, MI. He is also survived by sisters Jane (Vincent) Eagloski of Iron River and Ruth (William) Rucinski of Lansing, MI, and brother, Tom (Jean) Curtis of Tomahawk, WI. He will be greatly missed by nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 29th from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Iron River, with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate, followed by interment at Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River. Military Rites accorded by the West Side Veterans Council.
