William W. Gendron

William W. Gendron, age 92, of Iron River, MI, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital. He was born on November 24, 1929, in Iron River, MI, the son of the late Herman Gendron and Madeline (Huwald) Salo. He attended the Stambaugh and Iron Mountain Schools. He served as a sergeant with the National Guard for three years. William married the former Joyce Lagina on January 27, 1951, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara, WI and the couple made their home in Iron River. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year. He was a self-employed plasterer for U.P. Contractors for many years, retiring in 1989. William was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, AMVETS POST #436, and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local Union No 2, obtaining lifetime membership status in 1999 after 73 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. His grandchildren would always say “Grandpa can fix anything.” His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joy. William is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; son, Jeffrey (Darlene) Gendron of Iron River, MI; daughters, Debra Gendron of Florida and Shelley Gendron of Iron River, MI; four granddaughters, Megan (Jamie) Palmer, Lindsay Oystrick, Shannon (Scott) Sanders, and Stacey Walker; six great granddaughters and four great grandsons; and extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Fr. Daniel Fosu to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of William W.
