William ""Bill"" E. Harris Age 89 Iron River, MIDied Monday, August 15, 2011 at his home. Born: December 12, 1921 in Iron River, MI The son of the late William and Elizabeth (Trewartha) Harris attended the Homer and Iron River schools, graduating from Iron River High School in 1940. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Bill married the former Helen Mickelson on December 2, 1944 in Stambaugh, MI and the couple were lifelong residents of the area. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2010 and resided in Mineral Hills. He was employed as an activities director for many years and a truck driver for the Village of Mineral Hills for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Bill was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church of Iron River. He enjoyed oil painting, singing, camping at Lake Superior, agate picking, fishing, and just being in the outdoors. He and Helen had 17 dogs and many cats in their years of marriage and he spent the last years with his poodle, Buffy. He was an avid animal lover. He especially enjoyed his times with his great grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Helen Son, James (Judy) Harris of Iron River Brothers, Robert Harris of Iron River Keith Harris of Oklahoma City, OK Two grandchildren, Cindy (David) and William (Lindsay) Seven great grandchildren, Gabe, Tori, Isabelle, and Samuel (Harris - Hoogenboom) Lily, Kennison and Owen (Harris - Fitch) Visitation: Friday, August 19, 2011 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Iron River Funeral Service: Friday, August 19, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, Iron River, with Rev. Roberta Willson to officiate. Interment: Resthaven Cemetery, Iron River The family suggests memorial donations to the Northwoods Animal Shelter.
