William ""Bill"" F. Kolbas, age 89 of Gaastra, MI, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the Iron River Care Center, Iron River, MI Born: October 27, 1919 in Gaastra, MI The son of the late Joseph and Sophie (Skrczycki) Kolbas attended the Palatka School and graduated. He was a lifelong resident of the area and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of WWII. He was employed as a truck driver for Citgo for 40 years, retiring in 1996. Bill was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He enjoyed logging, cutting firewood on his property and just being outdoors. A quiet, gentle man, he lived a quiet life and enjoyed spending time with his extended family, especially his great niece and nephews He was preceded in death by brothers Frank K., Joseph, and Stanley, and sister Helen. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great niece and nephews Visitation: Friday, January 16, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River. Funeral Service: Friday, January 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, with Deacon Robert Kostka to officiate. Interment: Stambaugh Cemetery, Iron River The West side Veterans Council will accord military rites at the graveside service in the spring.
