William “Bill” R. Webber, age 90, of Iron River, MI, died Friday, August 1, 2014 at Northstar Health System, Iron River. He was born April 8, 1924 in Caspian, MI, the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Marinello) Webber. He attended the Stambaugh Schools, graduating with the Class of 1943. Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, serving as Infantry Squad Leader in the European African Middle Eastern Theater, and was awarded two Purple Heart Medals, a Bronze Service Arrowhead, and a Bronze Star Medal. He was employed in the local mines by M.A. Hanna Mining Company for 15 years. Bill married the former Beatrice Wagberg on June 17, 1950 at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Iron River, and the couple made their home in Bates Township. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 1995. Beatrice preceded him in death on August 31, 1995. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian. He enjoyed woodworking, and bocce ball. Bill is survived by his sons, Roy (Mary) Webber of Rockford, IL, and Ron Webber of Bates; brother, Kenneth (Deanna) Webber; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Jintana) Webber, and Melissa (Kenneth) Epperson; two great grandchildren, Dominic Webber, and Madelyn Epperson; sister-in-law, Florence Webber; special niece, Sharon Fitzpatrick; nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Robert, Homer, Raymond, and Donald, and sisters, Jean Gallup, and Verna Daniels. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church of Caspian, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase, Pastor, to offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery. The West Side Veterans will accord Military Rites at the graveside.
