Robert J. Swanson, Sr.

Robert J. Swanson, Sr., age 86, of Iron River, MI, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI surrounded by family. He was born March 24, 1928 in Stambaugh, MI, the son of the late Oscar and Elvira (Passamani). He attended the Iron River Schools and graduated. After he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, Robert worked for the Village of Mineral Hill. He was a member of the VFW Tufts-Rondon Post #2891 of Crystal Falls and the West Iron County Fire Department. He loved fishing, hunting, his cats and dogs, playing bingo and cribbage and spending time with his grandchildren. Robert is survived by his son Robert (Eve) Swanson, Jr. of Iron River; daughter, Candy (Karl) Young of Rolling Hills Estate, CA; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; special friend, Edlie Dubrock; and caregiver, Richelle Gibbons of Iron River. He was preceded in death by his sister Arlene Bennett and an infant daughter, Wendy Marie. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River. Members of the Iron County Firemen’s Association will Pass in Review at the visitation.Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at Jacobs Funeral Home, with Rev. Gregory Veneklase to officiate.
